What we collect

• Account information — your email address and name, provided when you sign in with Google.
• Saved content — articles, PDFs, EPUBs, and other content you explicitly choose to save.
• Subscription data — plan type, status, and Gumroad transaction IDs to manage your Pro access.
• Usage metadata — read times, action counts, and feature usage to improve the product.

What we do not collect

• We do not track your browsing history.
• We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for advertising.
• The Chrome extension only activates when you click “Save” — it does not monitor pages in the background.

Third-party services

We use the following services to operate SaveThenRead:

• PocketBase — self-hosted database for storing your account and saved content.
• Google OAuth — for authentication. We receive your name and email; we do not access your Google data.
• Gumroad — for payment processing. We receive transaction details but never see your full payment information.
• OpenAI & xAI — for AI features (text-to-speech, summaries, chat). Article text is sent to these APIs when you use Pro features. We do not send content without your explicit action.

Data storage & security

Your data is stored on our self-hosted PocketBase instance. We use HTTPS for all connections and cookie-based authentication with secure flags. We do not store passwords — authentication is handled entirely through Google OAuth.

Data deletion

You can delete individual saved items at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at the email below.

Chrome extension

The SaveThenRead Chrome extension requests the following permissions:

• activeTab — to read the current page when you click Save.
• scripting — to extract article content from the page DOM.
• storage — to cache your preferences locally.
• cookies — to authenticate with savethenread.com using your existing session.

The extension only runs when you interact with it. It does not execute in the background or on pages you do not explicitly save.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or email.
